Oh, please... saying that the brain-dead VA system (which everyone admits sucks balls hard) is a stereotypical "socialized medicine" is like saying that Mussolini was a stereotypical italian.

But here's the deal, the brain-dead VA system would probably be a template for ANY "Universal Health-Care" program deployed. Moving to a rationed system of "We're willing to pay for 300,000 MRI's per year" or "Cost-Cap on this new drug is $5 million" will only make things worse. It will slow down innovation in the public sector and create a new private system where the richest/most powerful can get exemplary coverage since they can pay for it.

More likely, since everyone, including the VA, admits the system is unsuccessful, is that they'd be looking at Canadian or European systems as examples of how to run the system.
As much as I think americans are pretty much "sound bite sheep", they'd still never subject themselves to the VA model.
