The Demise of NNTP

Over the past few weeks, my newsgroup reader has been getting quite busy. Not because there's been an influx of news, but because I just don't have time to screw around sorting the spam from the actual information (of which the latter is quite lacking in the past few years). Most of the stuff I've unsubscribed from since the subject is rather old (like rec.music.artists.queensryche which hasn't had a post about the band in quite a while) to info that can now be retrieved via blog.

Traffic Generating Question of the Day:

Does anyone use newsgroups anymore?

Comments

Yeah, I use newsgroups on occasion. Usually when attempting to find a decent answer that is 'tech' related and is eluding me at that time.

I find there is still quite a bit of useful info in there...you just need to stick to the groups that have been good. They seem to stay good.

And, don't forget 'Google Groups.' Good stuff there. It's always fun to find something I posted in college that made me look like a complete moron. Good to know that stuff isn't going away...

In techie issues, yeah it's still a good place to find "WTF?" questions. But when it comes to other issues (i.e. non-techie) it has become pretty much useless.
