Van Halen
Had a chance to take the oldest son to see Van Halen tonight. I think it was father-son night tonight at the Coliseum since there were at least three other dads doing the same thing with their sons.
Anyhow, great show. Eddie was stoned/blitzed but did really great except for the 15 minute guitar solo which was a bit long. But at the end, he thanked everyone for listening and I think, was crying tears of joy. He looks like he had an absolute blast in our little town.
While we weren't close enough to get something signed, I'm positive that Andrew had a great time for his first concert. And if you do get a chance, go see these guys. It's defintiely a better show than Metallica. ;-)

I remember seeing Van Halen for the first time (with the proper singer)back in '78 I think they were the opening act for Ozzy and they were awesome. Saw them again at Donington rock festival. Great band (with the proper singer) :)

I think Sammy offers much more to Van Halen than DLR could. If DLR wasn't such a pompous ass, he would most definitely be back in the band.
One of the best signs I saw at the show last night...during the appropriate song obviously. :-)
"RIGHT NOW Dave wishes he was Sammy"

Never did like Hager, even before he joined Van Halen. VH for me will always be with DLR up front.

Both Hagar and DLR are good players and have produced good music. I give it to DLR on the songs but Hagar has 2 things going for him:
He's still in a band and not some washed up loser on DLR. There is a world of difference between fronting a band and dragging your drunk ass to a Howard Stern taping.
DLR is a complete cock and sabotaged a great duo. Like Brian said, he'd be back in the band if he wasn't an asshole.

I actually think Sammy tends to bring more out of Eddie than DLR eveer did. Remember, DLR was around when Eddie was mostyl sober/mostly clean and Sammy has been around for all of the "fun" years. To the idea of "Van Halen" I think Sammy is a bigger part of the history than DLR ever could be.
