Justice?

One of my more heavily commented posts that I have had has revolved around the murder of Brieana Noe by her mother in order to guarantee that Brad May would never obtain custody.

Last night Brad commented on my site that Judi Noe is being released on July 5, 2006, serving a total of 24 months for murdering Brieana. Judi was originally sentenced to two to eight years in jail, and apparently since the "two" portion is up; she's being released.

Sharon Stone - WTF

I had no idea how to take this report....

Actress SHARON STONE is adamant teenagers should be prepared to engage in oral sex, if it saves from them the dangers of unprotected penetrative sex. The BASIC INSTINCT spends much of her time away from Hollywood working as an activist raising AIDS awareness, and she always carries condoms with her to hand out in a bid to increase safe sex levels. She explains, "I was in the store the other day and I watched a young girl trying on clothes, showing her abdomen. "Her mother was trying to talk to her about not being inappropriately luring. I said, 'Gee that would look much nicer with a camisole under.' "Her mother walked away, and I said to the girl, 'I'd like to give you a two-minute conversation about sex.' "Young people talk to me about what to do if they're being pressed for sex? I tell them (what I believe): oral sex is a hundred times safer than vaginal or anal sex. "If you're in a situation where you cannot get out of sex, offer a b### j##. I'm not embarrassed to tell them."

Well, I guess I can scratch Sharon off the babysitting list while DeAnn and I are gone to Palm Springs....

What the hell gives her a right to have a discussion about sex with someone else's child, on top of that, a total stranger you met in a store. Not only that, but she advocating that if you feel pressured into something, to give a b### j## instead? Whatever happened to "No Means No"?

Sharon Stone, for God's sake, shut the hell up....or at least start hanging out with Michael Jackson so we don't have to work twice as hard to keep kids away from idiots like yourself....

Jamie's Dance Recital

What's the definition of family?

Spending two plus hours in a dance recital to capture two plus minutes of your niece's performance. Which was quite cute.

Palm Springs

One of the benefits of working in telecom is they have awesome year end trips for the top performers...and I got one of them.

This year's trip...Palm Springs, CA.

And this looks pretty damn cool....

Another Example Of Being Way Too Wound

Police: Man Killed Teen Neighbor for Walking on Lawn

BATAVIA, Ohio — A man who neighbors say was devoted to his meticulously kept lawn was charged with murder in the shooting of a 15-year-old boy who apparently walked across his yard.

Charles Martin called 911 on Sunday afternoon, saying calmly: "I just killed a kid."

Scary thing is that there is at least one of these guys in any major housing addition. You know, the one who has a front lawn that you see only at Augusta or Pebble Beach. I understand pride in someone's life savings, but honestly, when does a petty argument reach this point? Over some mushy grass?

Proof The Terrorist Watch List Works

It at least ruined this guy's travel plans. However, there is one part that disturbs me....

Adams, whose Irish Republican Army-linked political party represents most Catholics in Northern Ireland, met Friday with President Bush and other Irish leaders in Washington.

What the f*ck is Bush doing meeting with a known terrorist. Seriously, remember that whole "war on terror" cow poopie? yeah, that. Who the HELL scheduled that meeting with one of the biggest f*cking terrorists in the world.

And why the hell isn't someone RAISING HELL over this? At least the BBC covered the story...

Wohlgemuth Household Contagion

I think all the crap about the bird flu has NOTHING on what has been spreading through this house.

Example:

Emily was sick on Monday. Puking, fever, general malaise. Upon hearing that Emily was staying home from school, Tyler became immediately infected with the same malady, minus the fever. He "threw up" three times in about ten minutes with no associated sounds or proof in the usual places.

So, this continues on until Friday, when he starts coughing like crazy (especially when he's in trouble). fine, keep him home and take him to the doctor who discovers he has a mild respiratory infection. Antibiotics, and staying home for the day from school, in which he became miraculously better after 12:00 (the time where you can't go back to school).

Fast forward to yesterday when Andrea was walking around the house feeling "bad", but no fever, throwing up, or anything along those lines. This morning at 6:45 when I walked into the room of three sleeping girls (who should have been up at 6:15) and start rousing them out of bed. Except for Andrea who slept in until her bus had already left. So after a drive to school and the silent treatment all the way there, it sounds like someone has mysteriously been able to get over the latest malady in the home.

However, I hear that the bug is still highly contagious and can be caught by any school-age child, usually on Monday mornings. ;-)

Oh my lord, my first weekend of not deleting 3000+ trackbacks or tons o'spam comments. Life is good. ;-)

New Toy

This thing kicks serious @$$. Had to get one from the evil VZ company since my company gave me one to use for work, but not much else. It's costing me the price of the phone plus $10/month on DeAnn's plan. Now if I can figure out how to upload a King's X song as a ringtone, then I'll be all set. :-)

Next Move

With graduation looming in May, I'm left to decide what the heck I'm going to do next. My degree in "Organizational Management" is nothing more than the official "Piece of Paper™" in Telecom, so I now need to decide what the heck I'm going to do. I think I've narrowed it down to three choices.

#1. Nothing. Just stay at home and concentrate on the kids. Not my favorite since they all want to concentrate on themselves or ones that are the opposite sex. Don't get me wrong, I want to do stuff with my kids, but after 21:00 they are all in bed and the wife is either watching TV or working. I'd like to do something to help my career, and to gain more knowledge in a field I know pretty well.

#2. Master's Certificate in Telecom. University of Denver is offering an online post-grad certificate in Telecom. It's not a Master Degree (that's an extra $12,000), but it looks like if I change my mind early enough, I can move towards it.

#3. CCNA/CCIP. The Cisco certifications I used/want to have. That will help in work tremendously, but then again, cash and time.

I'm leaning towards #3, with #2 starting later this year or possibly spring semester. At least that seems to be the most sane route at this point...

Comment & Trackback Spam Solution

I've been googling trackback and comment spam stopping ideas for part of the AM (in between that place that sends me paychecks) and I found one blog that has many suggestions but as you scroll down, find few in practice. ;-)

Another Example Of Not Knowing Your Customers

Movie theaters may ask to jam cell phones

Movie theater owners faced with falling attendance are considering asking federal authorities for permission to jam cell phone reception in an attempt to stop annoying conversations during films, the head of the industry's trade group said on Tuesday.

Industry leaders at the ShoWest conference for theater owners want to find ways to win back crowds.

I honestly cannot think of a better reason to NOT attend a movie, especially if my local theatre decides to take part (which I highly doubt). I am on call 24x7. No, obviously I'm not a doctor. But my job requires me to be reachable 100% of the time, which has involved me being paged out at DisneyWorld, at the movies, at dinner, etc. And the best way my customers and my employer can get a hold of me is my CrackBerry.

But movie theaters aren't thinking of this. They think only of the annoying teenager who decides to hold a conversation during a movie, so therefore we must punish the audience as a whole and jam cell phones. Whatever happened to someone asking someone to leave the theatre when they are being annoying? While they might gain a few customers who will enjoy the silence, the rest of us will stay at home, eating microwave popcorn and watch HD-PPV or a Blu-Ray disc. Why? Because I won't lose my job and in the long run, it will save me money (and my job).

New Commenting Policy

Derek knows all too well how bad the comment spam has been on my site. So effective today, you have to register with TypeKey to post on the site. This will affect two people, possibly three. Sorry for the inconveinence, but I'm tired of deleting smut.

3.2

Now on Movable Type 3.2, thanks to Derek who makes this all happen :-)

Funeral for a Friend

One of my favorite Elton John songs and sadly, something I had to attend yesterday in Columbus.

Robyn and I haven't worked together too long, about two years supporting our "big account" out of Detroit. We've been on a few business trips together, some which I've documented previously.

But yesterday I made a trip to say goodbye. Robyn had been Type I diabetic since childhood and apparently collapsed on Tuesday, unable to be revived. I was fortunate enough to meet her family and friends, and also to find out more about her, sadly, during her memorial service.

I never know what to say at a funeral, most of the time I just end up making an ass of myself, which is what I most likely did today. And what I find myself saying today is that I wish I could have spent more time getting to know Robyn.

Dear Netgear

Do you see this device?

It's a Netgear SC101 Network Storage Device. And it's been installed on my network for about two months. And it's a total piece of cow poopie.

A brief description for those of you who don't know what this device is. It's essentially a hard drive that can be accessed by any computer on my local network. The SC101 is supposed to provide "full-time access to data files such as MP3's, video files, documents, etc". Except it has a couple of glitches. No wait, it's has a lot of them. Let's start with the obvious.

The device get's hot. Like Africa hot when it is used to, say, copy a few MP3s. The designer of the heat sink on top of the box apparently was going more for looks than functionality. Per Netgear's support, the device should be operated with the front cover removed in order to lower the operating temperature. But that's just the first part.

Next, you will find the device only runs on Windows. No Mac support whatsoever, which especially sucks since I'm seriously contemplating getting a Mac. Oh well, that's my bad, I should have read the box closer.

Which brings me to the device itself. It supposed to provide RAID-level mirroring which backs up your data to another drive automatically. Except on occasion, the RAID mirroring fails spectacularly, losing all of your data. So, heeding warnings from other users, I've run the device as two seperate drives and now use Norton's Ghost to maintain images of my drive and the one network drive.

But that's not all. Say you want to copy from one disk to another. You would think the device would let you do that....WRONG! Everything has to go through the main PC, which obviously slows everything down to a crawl.

And God help you if you are running a wireless connection, because the device comes to a screeching halt when transferring a 3MB MP3 file. Netgear's answer is to turn off your router's firewall in order to improve network performance.

Finally, there's Netgear's lack of support. I opened a ticket in mid-January reporting a problem with a piece of provided software. It is now mid-March and my ticket has still not been responded to by their Tier II team.

Maybe I was expecting too much from a little network device. I know now that I should have slapped Linux on the spare machine I had lying around, but that's my bad and now I get to pay for it.

Gotta Control That Anger

Resist the urge to throw the Tivo remote, because all you end up with is the little tivo guy flying across the room and the circuit board breaking into about 5 pieces.

And if you can't resist, EBay sells replacements for $10/each. Grab two to save on shipping charges.

Back Online

Back Online, thanks to the dorkboy for making it happen. Couldn't ask for a better friend. ;-)

I'll blog more later, this was a bad week all around to not be able to blog. I'll make up for it shortly. :-(
