Stirring the Pot, Yet Again

I seem to tick people off in class, especially when it comes to networking/telecom. Maybe I should just shut up....
Cliques are starting to form, not to the extent you would see in High School, but still I'm out here blogging in the distance. Yeah, I've turned off the laptop for a few minutes to talk but I don't know if it's me or my personality that most people walk away from.
Found an old co-worker of mine from the GTE days and we've talked a bit. Onto the afternoon session...

Day One: Don't need the Mac as much in class because the profs are handing out notes. Profs are fun and interesting thank God. Also, I'm in wireless heaven....54 Meg no prob connected to local fiber to the big university in town.
Pic is courtesy of Photo Booth on the Mac...hope I didn't break any monitors.

We're still beating the heck out of our Fort Wayne Children's Zoo membership. Here's a pic (from last week, bad me) of the four kids plus Jamie and Angie at the zoo.
Dad, Derek, and Lynnly; hold your applause.
I've converted. I'm typing this from my new black MacBook which finally showed up a couple of days ago. The only problem so far is a massive lack of memory which will be remedied soon as it shows up from a company who sells it at half the price Apple puts on its website.
MBA classes start tomorrow and it's going right in there with me. Not had a single drop on the wireless network and (besides the lack o'memory) it does an awesome job with NeoOffice (no more $$$ to Microsoft....Mr. Jobs now gets all my computing cash).
And the migration assistant was incredible (besides the fact that it copied over my boot camp XP partition files...how nice it was to delete "autoexec.bat" and have the machine boot flawlessly.
Anyone want to buy a MacMini cheap (that is if Mrs. W doesn't get converted herself)
What is it with kids and fighting? I know, kids are idiots when it comes to relationships, but hear me out....
Tonight Andrea and I drove over to the skating rink to pick up the girls and a few friends at closing time. Large crowd outside, find the kids, tell them to hop in and away we should go. Except when I start hear two girls start screaming at each other and the crowd starts forming around them....
What the heck is it when a crowd forms around two girls who are beating the crap out of each other? The girls are picking sides and the guys are enjoying the show. And of course it's up to yours truly to break up the melee and send them packing because the "cool guys" were walking around enjoying the carnage as opposed to doing the right thing and getting in between them. No, it took at 34 year stranger to pull them apart on the ground to stop the stupid crap.
Yeah, I know, as the person who received a few blows over the years I have a different view of it than some people. Usually its a tough kid picking on someone who isn't as tough (in this case, the tough kid apparently was tripping another on the skating rink all night long and then decided to take it outside when they were going home).
While I know I did the right thing (as opposed to some parents who ushered their kids into their cars quickly and then stayed and watched), some of my kids think now they will be known for the "fat dad who got in between a really good fight" and they might even pay for it when school starts. But I hope they realize one day it was the right thing to do...
Tyler went back into the hospital last night. Will have more details later on, this place seems to know what they are doing.
I honestly don't know what to think of this....
Honda Motor Co. announced plans Tuesday to start accepting sales orders this fall for the small jet it debuted last year.Honda said its prototype six-to-seven seat HondaJet has completed more than 240 hours of flight-testing since December 2003, achieving an altitude of 43,000 feet and a speed of 412 knots.
I haven't seen a price as of yet, but it does make sense that auto manufacturers (especially solvent, successful ones) start getting back into the aviation business (which they dumped after WWII). I hoenstly have no idea if they are going to be successful, at least to a scale Honda expects for its products. But its always nice to see another company enter the fray of personal aviation.
Stupid I know, but Hannah threatened me with "something" if I put this on the internet. So here it is....
Got four for the home opener at Soldier Field against the Detroit Lions. Oh well, if my White Sox can't beat Detroit, maybe the Bears can.... Think I'll take the wifey and two kids...anyone want to babysit the others?
Update: Got two more for my neighbor and I for the 49ers game.
You have to wonder about the doom and gloom these days, especially with Global Warming. Today's panic piece?
Undersea Gas Could Speed Global Warming
Do I dare bring up the point that the Earth temperature was several degrees warmer in the past? And the cycle has repeated itself several times over the millenia? And we're all still here.
Now, I would honestly love to find something different along the lines of improved Nuclear Power and a couple of these to tool around in, two things today's concerned environmentalist doesn't want to really consider (well, at least the first one....).
So what does it mean? Hell, I'm not a scientist, but I have to guess that what we're seeing is...
a). Natural
b). Out of Our Control
Should we lower our oil consumption? Of course, but more for waste/political reasoning than anything. And if you want to really help the environment, instead of buying a nickel-metal hydride battery equipped Prius just grab an old Civic with a 5 speed transmission. Especially when you get 43mpg driving 70+mph back from yesterday's Tigers game.
Well, at least to really great music coming from a high school.
One beneift of living in the little burg that I do is the relatively close high school has a kick-ass programming department (whcih is obviously not picked by the students, or at least they have some really good teachers influencing the student choices).
So if you like early 80's alternative combined with some pretty decent and mostly unheard modern stuff, I'd add this to your list.
Well, at least for a good reason this time.....
Emily, little miss World Traveller paid the price for her recent flights to London and Tampa by having all four wisdom teeth pulled on Wednesday. She bears a striking resemblence to this, but she's OK and making progress.

White Sox lose this afternoon 2-1 in an easily winnable game (three double plays by Detroit and at least one time when bases were loaded). I of course left the game at the top of the sixth when the White Sox were up 1-0, and then they give it up in the bottom of the 6th and 7th.
Oh well, at least I had a good time with my fellow coworkers (and a few Detroit fans as well).

Linky to all photos here.
I really hate roller coasters. With a passion. I don't like the idea of being out of control and trusting some lackey to make sure the safety bar is down far enough to prevent my plump ass from being ejected at 60+ mph.
That being said...enjoy the video. The ride BTW, is the Barnstormer at Disneyworld. Some of the scream are embellished by yours truly. Some are not.
423 Messages....thankfully nothing that I need to jump on early this morning.
Moving pics over from my work laptop to the mac. Some things I've realized/learned on this trip
#1. One day of driving is pretty much all this family can handle. Two days is pushing things....
#2. The Macbook gets ordered within the next week. A week of using my work laptop has convinced me to make the final switch. The nice thing about moving to a macbook is that I'll never go hungry.
#3. Florida is really, really nice, but it's always nice to be back home in flyover country.
Pics from the trip can be found here.

20+ hours of driving each way....I'm beat. More later.
Scott Adams has hit upon something that surely has to exist in today's society....
(Disclaimer: blah blah blah, copyright, etc, etc, etc, me bad for recording this...)
So on Friday night, DeAnn and I took a night off from the kids and went to see the Colin & Brad Show at the Honeywell Center. The Honeywell center is a great place for us to see a show since it is relatively close and it's quite an auditorium (see previous notes about shows at the Honeywell Center with Cheap Trick and Night Ranger. DeAnn and I watch the Americanized version at night, usually recorded from the ABC family channel. And now since it is off the air, we're basically watching the same show over and over again.
Colin and Brad have been touring the country and I'm sure seeing a number of people who watched the show. They do various game from the show, and some stuff that will never be on the show (such as mousetrap).
So before you click on the video, let me set it up for you. Colin and Brad were playing the game "Whose Line" which means they pick a phrase out of a hat and have to say it in the middle of a sketch. Some family decided it would be a good idea to bring their three year old to the show with a Colin and Brad shirt on for whatever reason. During this sketch, the kid started yabbering and he was pretty loud to the point where Colin and Brad started using it in their sketch. Eventually, the kid would not shut up, so Brad grabs the hat and walks into the audience to say something to the kid.
So for those of you who couldn't make it to the show (which included my entire family....etc), here's a brief snippet of what you missed. And you probably will be glad you did... :-)
Update: YouTube still had not processed the damn thing overnight, so it's been moved over to Google video.
