Day Six - Blue Mountains

deannthree.jpg

Sorry this is late, but here's a pic of yesterday's activities at the Three Sisters monument in the Blue Mountains. Met some nice Liverpudlians who were lamenting along with us about our self-absorbed tour guide. Will have pics from that later.

Day Seven posted later. :-)

Day Five - Suburbia & Nemo

sunsetsydney.jpg

Not many pictures today, because we ended up finding a replacement CPAP machine which was replaced for free by the manufacturer. What it did require however was a trip to the suburbs of Sydney. After a $50 taxi ride, we were able to see the lovely town of Hurstville.

Hurstville is a nice suburb about 30 minutes south of downtown, and after a short wait, we were able to get a brand new machine (for free) and it was the latest model to boot. :-) The store was located across from a giant Westfield shopping mall, so it took us only a few seconds to decide to visit the place.

One observation, malls are malls, especially when they are run by Westfield. Only difference here is the mall included a "fresh food" area which had all sorts of extremely fresh meats and seafood. The big store in the mall was K-Mart, which was humorous to walk through.

So after our mall excursion, we decided to head back and took the train to Sydney station. Australian transit is very similar to BritRail, except without the very handy maps, so I was worried we were on the wrong train until we pulled into Sydney Central. A quick cab ride to the hotel, and life was good.

Since it was raining most of the day today, we decided to take in the Aquarium which is about 100 feet from the hotel. You can see that the Aquarium and Disney must have had some sort of partnership when they did "Finding Nemo" since they prominently had their likenesses all over the place. The place is quite dark, so not too many decent pictures to share. Tons of video which may get uploaded at some point.

A quick night of shopping for DeAnn and we're calling it a day for now. Tomorrow is the Blue Mountains tour and we'll definitely have tons of pictures then.

More Pictures from Day Four

Picasa has been taking a beating from me today. The latest album is up for your review.

Day Four - Touring Day

Fuzzy Rat in a Tree

One of many pictures taken today....if I can get iPhoto to work right for more than ten minutes, I'll have more to upload. Took over 160 picutres and video parts today. Will try to get them on Picasa shortly.

Free day tomorrow, not sure what we're going to do. Probably will see the Opera House and a few other touristy sites.

Answer Me This One - Oh Electrician Gurus

You have a device that can run 110v/220v.

You have a transformer which can kick out up to 1850 watts.

Your device uses a maximum of 1500 watts in either fashion.

Tell me how this device hoses itself if it gets a 110v current since it has it's own internal converter and because I hooked it up to a 220v/110v transformer, how it knows it's connected to a transformer and then hoses itself?

Because I'd really like to know how.

Unit is under warranty and it sounds like they will swap it with us. Need to call the office in Melbourne and play stupid.

Power Sucks....

The one thing I hate about overseas travelling is the power issue....and we just ran into it big time.

DeAnn's CPAP machine just took a dive. It looks like the power transformer I purchased is defective (since it did weird things with DeAnn's curling iron as well) and now I'm going to have to purchase a machine down here since she can't sleep without it.

Frak....day one of the trip and this happens...

11,700 Miles Later...

Greetings from Sydney! No major pictures since the last time I posted, but here's the view from our hotel room on Darling Harbor.

It's 14:00 over here on the other side of the planet and we're both wiped. Going to take a quick nap soon after I get caught up with e-mail and the such. Nice cool day here in Sydney, about 69 degrees and sunny.

Our big tour is tomorrow, so I'll post more pics then.

Greetings from FL380

alaska.jpg

That is a lovely picture from 38,000 feet from Seat 64K on a Cathay Pacific flight. 15 hours later (and two meals, and little sleep) brings us to this exotic locale.

Welcome to Hong Kong International Airport. Fortunately, this is just a stopover for the next couple of hours as we await our next flight to another location (about nine hours flight time from here).

No pics uploaded yet, will do so when we get to our final stop.

Day Two: LAX to Far Off Places

Good morning from Los Angeles.

lamorning.jpg

Woke up at 5:15 PDT and chatted with Derek about the trip and his own adventures. Went to go wander, but thankfully passed out again to get a few more hours of sleep in a very comfortable bed.

Not going to be nearly as comfortable for the next 30 hours....

Next time we chat, I'll be ten time zones away. Cell phone goes dead at 13:00 PDT.

Day One: IND to LAX

747%20Sunset.jpg

Several hours of flying have brought us to this locale, awaiting something similar to the picture above. See if you can guess where... ;-)

DeAnn and I are relaxing at the Westin (where we just ordered what I am sure is the most expensive "burger n'chicken sandwiches" that are available in the area).

Pics are being uploaded to Picasa as we speak. Linky to it is here.

Now I get to upload my fabulous notes from class and hopefully tomorrow I can pull the paper from my classmates to edit on the very, very, very, very long flight.

Airport Waiting

Sitting in Dick Clarks restaurant, waiting for our puddlejumper to Charlotte. No pics now since I'm blogging from the crackberry. We were over on the baggage weight, so we pulled out the third packed away bag and were on our way. Will take and post pics later today.

24 Hours

24 Hours from now, I'll be in Los Angeles with Mrs. W., finding a footprint of her favorite actress.

And 40 hours from now, we'll be at FL360 on our way to far off places.

Details to follow.

Homework Sucks

Three major group projects for school, all due within the next three weeks.

Plus accounting homework.

Plus various questions from professors.

Oh, and I'm supposed to be on holiday in 14 days.

I started my accounting homework around 11:30 tonight...and now it's 1:30 and I only realized it when I started to get so damn tired. And the accounting homework is about 40% done. Will probably spend at least another two hours on it tomorrow finishing it up to turn in Monday.

This is why this is (for the near future) my last degree I am pursuing. I am relishing the time away from academia to put towards...well....the kids and nothing else. ;-)

Buh-Bye Katie

For those of you who don't watch Battlestar Galactica (the new series)...just enjoy this lovely picture.

Pictures_of_Kittens_Cats-Kitten_Head.jpg

OK, so they whacked Starbuck tonight. Not a surprise since:

a). Most of the reports said they were not killing her off.
b). BSG producers like to screw with peoples minds.

So they big question is what does she come back as next season.

a). A Cylon.
b). A Goddess.
c). Something weird like Gandalf the White.
d). Catch Katie Sackhoff on a very special edition of "Joey".

I vote for "d".
